Management Committee

Garrion People’s Housing Co-operative is run by a Voluntary Management Committee who are duly elected after the Co-operative’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of shareholders held in September each year. The Committee has a maximum of 15 places and is made up of tenants and other individuals all of whom are unpaid.

The Co-operative ensures that Committee Members have the skills knowledge and awareness to carry out their role in a confident and effective manner. All members receive thorough and detailed training on Governance and other related matters on an ongoing basis.

The Committee Appraisal is carried out by the Cooperatives Chairperson and an external consultant. The Appraisal covers assessment of each Committee Members contribution, and evaluation of how the Committee functions as a Committee. A report is then produced and presented to the management committee and from this an overall Committee Training Plan is put in place. In addition to the plan, an action plan is developed to improve how the effectiveness of the committee.

It is the responsibility of the Committee to undertake the strategy, setting of policy and overall direction of the Co-operative. They also monitor the operational activities of the organisation.

Our Committee make the key decisions about the Co-operative and provide challenge and oversight over our staff team to ensure that all decisions and activity are in the best interests of our tenants.

The Co-operative complies with the Scottish Housing Regulators Regulatory Standards of Governance and Financial Management.
